Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology
Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology is the clinic that systematically examines oral and maxillofacial tissues and organs, all physiological and pathological changes of these structures are interpreted clinically and radiographically, diagnosing oral, dental and mucosal diseases, and preparing the most appropriate treatment plan for the improvement of these tissues, and directs patients to the specialty branches where they will be treated.
The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology consists of "Oral Diagnosis" and "Radiology Clinic" where diagnostic imaging procedures are performed.
In the Oral Diagnosis clinic, patients who apply to the faculty are first examined, and after clinical examination, radiographic examination is performed when necessary, and treatment plans are made according the data obtained. With the cone-beam computed tomography available within the Radiology Clinic; Orthognathic surgery planning, implant planning, evaluation of embedded teeth, and cysts, tumors and tumor-like lesions in the jaw-face area can be evaluated in 3D.
In the radiology clinic, radiographic examinations are performed with intraoral (periapical radiography, bite-wing radiography, occlusal radiography etc.) and extraoral (panoramic radiography, cephalometric radiography etc.) two-dimensional imaging methods by referring patients who continue their treatment in other clinics, besides patients who apply to the faculty for the first time.
In the Oral Diagnosis Clinic, we train our students to exam the main reasons for patients' application as well as examining all oral and head and neck region. Apart from dental caries and gum diseases in the mouth, diseases of the jaw bones and joints, salivary glands, tongue, base of the mouth, lips and all soft tissues in the mouth are within the scope of our department and are included in our curriculum.
