Department of Orthodontics deals with the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of improper positions of the teeth and jaws. Besides having a beautiful smile, chewing ability and healthy teeth are obtained with orthodontic treatment.
The aim of orthodontic treatment is to aligns teeth and corrects jaws and to achieve a harmonious bite. Orthodontic treatments are also aimed at making patients breathe easier, speaking more comfortably, chewing more easily and achieving a more aesthetic appearance.
After the clinical examination, orthodontic treatments are started by making measurements on the x-ray, photograph and plaster models taken from the patient. It is carried out by fixing with brackets attached to the teeth and with the intraoral / extra-oral apparatus used to regulate the relationship between the jaws. Orthodontic treatment is a conservative treatment method that varies according to the orthodontic problem of each patient and can be performed in children or adults without any age limit. Treatment of severe jaw deformities can be corrected by orthognathic surgery.
Orthodontic treatments can usually continue for a period ranging from 8 months to 30 months. The average time for a patient to wear braces is 18 to 28 months. At the end of orthodontic treatment, after the braces are removed, reinforcement devices are used to prevent the teeth from returning to their old state.
